The centrality of the Archbishops’ Palace emerges in Santo Antão do Tojal, the summer residence of the 1st Patriarch of Lisbon, Tomás de Almeida. The building, which has a great scenographic impact, is part of the Royal Complex, and was designed by the architect António Cannaveri. It was here that the King and the Court would stay when travelling to Mafra, and where the ceremonies of the blessing of the bells destined for the Mafra Basilica took place. It was also from here that Baltasar left, driving a board of oxen with materials that would be used in the Royal Construction. The landed Italian statues that had docked at the pier, would also leave from here.
